T[/size]he breeze cradled Rayna's hair gently, holding it above her shoulders and swaying it back and forth. Several strands broke apart from the main clump, and began to whip fervently across her face. She brushed them behind her ears, sighing heavily. Wind was so... annoying. For example, if one were to take notes outdoors, as she was doing now, it was practically a guarantee that an ink vial would be spilled, or a piece of parchment carried off due to a harsh gust of air. Of course, a simple Accio charm would remedy the problem, but that wasn't the point. Rayna was immersed in her activity, and she found it particularly distressing to reach for her wand every five minutes, yell "Accio Vial!" or "Accio Parchment!" and get back to what she was doing. Although, that meant that she'd have to walk or perhaps run to retrieve whatever she'd lost. But walking was indeed good exercise. And laziness, as she remembered her father once telling her, is not a virtue.
Generally, Rayna always had a perfectly valid reason for being in a certain place. Or at least a valid excuse. This particular time, she didn't really have a reason, other than taking note of her fellow students' behavior as they strolled across the open courtyard. It was a habit that many might think boring, but in fact it was quite useful and surprisingly interesting, especially for Rayna. Over the years, she'd become so skilled that she was able to differentiate a friendly hug from a lover's embrace, an eyebrow raised in curiosity or one raised in frustration. And this, as one may have guessed, was the proverbial key to the door of off-limits information. Rayna could tell a little about someone from the way they dressed, or how they styled their hair. But much more was at her disposal if she observed the same person or people constantly. That way, she could determine their body language and facial expressions when they felt ecstatic, or furious, or anxious. Or how they acted when they received good news, or were in deep thought, or were forlorn was some reason. Or, most crucially, if they had something to hide.
Rayna shifted her postion on the bench, uncrossing her legs and placing both arms on the back support, so that she would appear relaxed and inconspicuous. She closed her leatherbound notebook, dropping it onto her lap, and and stowed her quill and ink vial in the largest pocket of her mocha brown, corduroy tote bag. Rayna resisted returning the journal to the folds of her robes, or the depths of her tote bag, in case she noticed something behaviorally fascinating. She twirled her wavy, blonde hair between the index and middle fingers of her left hand. I'll give it ten more minutes, she thought, and then it's back to the common room to work on that DADA paper. She remembered clearly the events of the day it was assigned, forty-eight hours previous. It had been mildly entertaining. A gang of fourth year Hufflepuffs had decided it was a good idea to set off bewitched firecrackers in the Great Hall, and each were awarded weeklong detentions as a result. And they rightfully deserved it. Then again, what was a wholesome year at Hogwarts without something worthy of notoriety?[/blockquote]
